The tor tor are traditional Batak Dance, whearas the dance event are called Monortor ( Menari ). Originally, The tor tor accompanied by Gondang Sabangunan ( set of Gondang ) and Uning Uningan ( lute, flute and gong ). Tor tor are combination movement of hand, feet, head and body harmonizing with the rhythm of the music. The tor tor are performing at every event, both sad and joy, especially Meninggal Sayur Matua ceremony (Offsprings).
There are many kind of Tortor, the Tor tor Pangurosan or "purifies" which is performed on ceremony to purify the village and ward of peril and evil spirit, The Sipitu cawan or dance of seven cup performed on coronation. According to myth, this dance originated from seven angels dancing om top of Mounth Pusuk Buhit along with the arrival of the Piso Sipitu Sasarung or "seven sheathed knife". Now tor tor performed at various event and ritual, such as receiving guests and banquet.
